90 Degree C Supply Conductor, Old Wiring, and LED A19 Light Bulbs Question

Main Post:

Can I use a 90 degree C supply conductor rated outdoor ceiling light fixture on my 1950s house with old wiring? I’m strictly using led A19 lightbulbs which, of course, draw a lot less wattage than a typical light bulb. The ceiling light outdoor fixture I want has 2 lightbulb sockets compared to the old one which only has one. I can’t seem to find one with only one light bulb socket and I would really like to use the lighting fixture I found. I’ve seems many differing opinions about this topic online. Thank you for your responses.

Top Comment: Technically no, you are not. You are only supposed to connect it to NM-B wiring (or other modern wiring) - the reason being that someone could replace your LED bulb with an incandescent one and cook the wiring. https://www.bobvila.com/posts/78836-90c-supply-conductor-v-60c-supply-conductor Why not just install an LED fixture instead of one that needs a bulb? They should last longer because the LEDs are separated from the power circuits. That said if you have your heart set on this fixture, the wiring's been cooked for 70 years at this point, and high wattage incandescents are hard to find now, so you wouldn't be making things worse
